Sacramento has always been a great place in which to live. People have always found the quaint town a good place to settle and raise a family. It is close enough to the hustle and bustle that you can get to the big city in little time yet far enough out away from it that the gang violence and other negative sides and aspects of big city living don’t truly affect you much.

Since the recent realities of the real estate market issues in the state have come to light, the cost of property here has fallen in stride with the rest of the state making it an extremely affordable place to purchase property and a great place to own. The significant plus is that the Sacramento area should be one of the first places in the state to start growing in value when the problems with the economy and the market begin to turn and once again start climbing.

For someone interested in making a purchase in which they plan on staying this makes a great way to get a nice place in a great location which should begin showing equity soon. For those of you that are looking for good investment type property, that also means that this is a great location to purchase with an eye at sales and profit only a few years down the road.

No matter which reason you have for purchasing real estate in or around the Sacramento Valley there is almost no way that you are going to lose in the purchase as long as you use diligence in your purchase and make sure that you buy a solid piece of property in a decent neighborhood and that you get it for a decent price. The bottom line is that the potential is great and the risk factor is relatively low.

Sacramento is a great city for couples to visit, especially those who are more interested in the history of the area. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area. The area looks like a section of the city stuck in the 1800′s, and although there are a few modern businesses in the area, Old Sacramento is more of a hotspot among tourists rather than a residential or commercial area. There are several museums and quaint shops in the area, as well as a few restaurants. The most visited part of Old Sacramento is the California State Railroad Museum, full of artifacts and trains, many of which are intact from the time they were last used. (Travel to California became much easier and quicker with the introduction of the Steam Engine.)

The city of Sacramento is also home to many festivals that many people come from all over the world to attend. The Traditional Jazz Music Festival is held annually over the Memorial Day Weekend and the California State Fair is one of the most popular events of its kind in the world. Held annually for the last 152 years, the California State Fair draws in more than a million visitors each year and is always filled with fun exhibits and entertaining performances. It is a city that is buzzing with excitement and there is plenty to do and see in the wonderful city. As far as dining is concerned, Morton’s Steakhouse is a wonderful upscale restaurant to spend the night at, as is the Biba Ristorante Italiano, which has won the “Best Restaurant in Sacramento” award multiple times. If you are in the mood for Chinese, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro is always a favorite spot among couples.

The music scene in Sacramento is a potpourri of great artists and a few up and coming ones. With several major successes and label recordings and signings over the past few years, Sacramento is now firmly placed on the map of the music industry. Sacramento music scene reflects the entire culture of the place, which consists of both classical as well as modern genres. However, amongst all the other genres of music, jazz has now become synonymous with Sacramento. There are many music festivals held in Sacramento, making it one of the biggest music destinations in the country today.

Monthly concerts, Jazz in the Park, and the Youth Scholarship Program all highlight this citys everlasting love for jazz. The piano lounges and blues clubs are all tucked away in cozy little corners throughout the city, where some of the most talented amateur musicians and established artists perform.

If you are interested in classical music, there are plenty of exciting programs and events in store for you in Sacramento. The Camellia Symphony Orchestra is recognized all over the country for producing and presenting programs that are high in artistic merit, which include world premieres, rarely performed and basic repertoire works. If you are interested in studying classical music, then it is offered in Sacramento in association with some of the local universities.

In the eighties, bands like Club Nouveau, Tesla, Steel Breeze and Bourgeois Tagg made big news in the music scene, and each of them had national hits. Tesla continued to make big money until the nineties before they broke up temporarily, and then got back together over the millennium. Also, in the nineties, the local artists that went on to become national musical successes included DRS, Deftones, Papa Roach, Cause & Effect and Oleander. Indeed, the history of music in Sacramento includes various artists that either came close to making it or made it to stardom. From Lynn Anderson to Mark Curry, Kevin Sharp to Timothy B Schmit, these artists were based in Sacramento before, during or after signing up for a record label for national distribution.

What is more, the Memorial Auditorium, the Crest Theatre, the Arco Arena and the Sleep Train Amphitheater are all known for hosting big names and rock concerts, and even national pop-tours. The Amphitheater is particularly famous because it is brand new and has state-of-the-art, open-air concert facilities in its 18,500 seater space. It also has an exceptionally good sound system and three large video screens.

On weekends, the locals head towards the Cesar Chavez Plaza and J Streets for the free Friday night music concerts. For a little over two weeks, local bands perform here, attracting more than 5,000 people each week. Blues, country, alternative music, and rock and roll are performed at this Friday night event. Everything, from beer to wine, food vendors to soda gardens and great music form the essence of this tradition.

Sacramento is also known for its theater and is home to biggest nonprofit musical theater of California, the California Musical Theatre, formerly called the Sacramento Light Opera Association. This theater has staged several productions of musicals including classics like Oklahoma, The King and I, and Show Boat. It also offers Broadway hits performed by national stars.

The 24th Street Theatre is home to the Light Opera Theatre of Sacramento, which offers light opera works of Gilbert and Sullivan. The Sacramento Theatre Company has its own resident company, which offers classical as well as modern plays. The B Street Theatre, which happens to be Sacramento Professional New Works Theatre Company, produces excellent contemporary theatrical works. The Garbeau Dinner Theatre is housed in a renovated winery. In all, there are more than 80 groups that present live theatrical performances in Sacramento.

The Camellia Symphony season starts in October and goes on till mid-May. It includes 6 different concerts and many other special fundraising concerts. The Sacramento Opera has produced and performed over 40 operas, and the opera season starts in September and goes on till March. The Sacramento Philharmonic features 5 concerts from November to May. The Sacramento Ballet is made up of 22 artists, 4 trainees and 8 apprentices, who perform classical as well as contemporary ballet.

When visiting Sacramento you must not forget that it is home to one of the oldest art museums in the West. The Crocker Art Museum has a permanent collection of European paintings by masters like Bruegel and Rembrandt. It also includes a famous collection of drawings, along with Persian and Indian paintings. From American paintings to decorative arts, to ceramics and photography, the museum has it all. The California State Railroad Museum showcases the history of the railroads in its premises. The museum displays over 21 railroad cars and locomotives, as well as roughly 46 exhibits. The Discovery Museum features science, technology and interactive history exhibits. The Towe Auto Museum features the history of the car and automotive culture, and has over 150 vintage models on display. The State Indian Museum showcases jewelry, clothing, baskets, art and other artifacts of the Native Americans.

The Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, which is also the largest gathering of jazz bands in the world, starts during the Memorial Day weekend and features over 100 bands. The Bridge to Bridge Waterfront Festival is in July and features boating, boat races, wakeboard and coast guard demonstrations. The California State Fair starts in August and goes on till September and is one of the largest fairs in the whole country. The four-day long Gold Rush Days Festival starts over Labor Day weekend, and the Gold Rush era is recreated in Old Sacramento. The California International Marathon is in December, and the starting point is at Folsom and it ends at the Sacramento State Capitol building.

From the Chinese to the Japanese, the Koreans to the Philippines, the Europeans to the African Americans and even the Native Americans, Sacramento has now become a cultural hot spot. The Chinese came to Sacramento in the Gold Rush days of the 1800s, and once the gold ran out, most of them stayed back to work as cooks, laborers, merchants and farmers. In the West End, lies Sacramento small but important Japantown. A strong sense of Japanese heritage survives here and there is an annual Japanese Food and Cultural Bazaar that starts in August.

Sacramento homes for sale offer a great sense of community in gated communities. Here you will be welcomed with open arms and swept right to the heart of the community where you can build a great life for your family. There are a number of fantastic, safe and thriving communities in and around Sacramento, and below is just a selection of them.

Winn Park

This is one urban Midtown neighborhood in Sacramento; homes for sale could be ranch homes, Victorian properties, craftsmen built houses, four-plexes or apartments. There is plenty of choice here. Everyone knows your name in Winn Park, and local store owners will soon be on first name terms with you if you buy one of the homes for sale in this great town. It’s a tolerant and accepting neighborhood where you’ll soon make friends beneath the wide canopy of glorious trees which characterize the area.

Arden Park

This is another leafy suburb of Sacramento; homes for sale are placed on generous lots as land has been given over to homeowners’ yards rather than to sidewalks. The homes are beautiful and there is a relaxed, friendly lifestyle to match.

River City

‘City’ does not seem quite an appropriate term for this collection of quaint half-plexes in the cul-de-sacs of homes for sale here. It is less than a five minute drive to downtown Sacramento so you can have the best of both worlds in River City.

Curtis Park

These historic homes for sale in the Curtis Park neighborhood were among the first to be built in Sacramento, so the close-knit community is steeped in history. Only a five minute ride on a bike from downtown Sacramento, Curtis Park has bungalows, Storybook, Spanish Revival style and Crafts homes along its seasoned tree-lined streets. Whether it’s old or new you want, you can find it in Curtis Park.

Phoenix Field

The area northeast of Sacramento once was the home location of the Phoenix Field Airport. Between the 1940′s and 1980′s, people were able to taxi airplanes right from their doors to the airfield. However most of the current Sacramento homes for sale were only built in the 1990s. Phoenix Field is a great party neighborhood.

Oak Park

Oak Park is Sacramento’s oldest neighborhood and has undergone a great revival in recent years. There are lovely Victorians, great bungalows and Craftsman Sacramento homes available in Oak Park.
